Dandelion Root: In traditional Chinese and Native American medicine, dandelion root has long been used to treat stomach and liver conditions. Herbalists today believe that it can aid in the treatment of many ailments, including acne, eczema, high cholesterol, heartburn, gastrointestinal disorders and diabetes.

Gentian Root: Gentian root is best known as a bitter that stimulates saliva, stomach acid, and bile secretion. Gentian is used for digestion problems such as loss of appetite, bloating, diarrhea, and heartburn. It is also used for fever and to prevent muscle spasms. Gentian originally comes from Europe and Turkey and is recommended by herbalists as a digestive aid. Gentian is ideal for people with decreased digestive ability. Recent research highlights the ability of gentians to reduce overall caloric intake in healthy individuals.

Pellitory: Pellitory-of-the-wall is used for fluid retention, constipation, and cough. It can also be taken for a variety of urinary tract disorders including urinary tract infections (UTIs), kidney pain, and kidney stones.

Ginger Root:
Ginger is native to warmer parts of Asia, such as China, Japan, and India, but now is grown in parts of South American and Africa. Ginger is traditionally thought to stimulate digestion and increase digestive juices. Ginger is an antioxidant and may be helpful for reducing gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, stomach pain, and intestinal spasm.  It’s also used for menstrual cramps, osteoarthritis, diabetes, migraine headaches, and other conditions.

Fennel Seed: Fennel is used by mouth for various digestive problems including heartburn, intestinal gas, bloating, loss of appetite, and colic in infants among others. Fennel and its seeds also contain nutrients like magnesium, potassium, and calcium, which play important roles in keeping your heart healthy.

Couch Grass Root: Couch grass is a grass that is an invasive weed. Couch grass root is taken by mouth for constipation, cough, bladder swelling (inflammation), fever, high blood pressure, or kidney stones. It is also used for water retention.

Uva Ursi: The primary health benefit of uva ursi as a medicinal herb is its use in treating urinary tract infections (UTIs) and bladder infections (cystitis). There have been several studies that show uva ursi may be beneficial in treating UTIs and one study showed that when combined with dandelion root, uva ursi may even prevent recurrent UTIs. The herb also contains tannins that have astringent effects, helping to shrink and tighten mucous membranes in the body. In turn, that helps reduce inflammation and fight infection.

Pipsissewa: Pipsissewa is used for urinary tract infections (UTIs), bladder stones, fluid retention, spasms, epilepsy, anxiety, and cancer. Some people apply it directly to the skin for treating sores and blisters.

Dandelion Leaf: Dandelion is an herb that is native to Europe. It is also found throughout mild climates of the northern hemisphere. Dandelion is used for conditions such as swelling (inflammation) of the tonsils (tonsillitis), infections of the kidney, bladder, or urethra (urinary tract infections or UTIs), and many others, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses. Dandelion contains chemicals that may increase urine production, prevent crystals from forming in the urine, and decrease swelling (inflammation).

Corn Silk: Corn silk is used for bladder infections, inflammation of the urinary system, inflammation of the prostate, kidney stones, and bedwetting. It is also used to treat congestive heart failure, diabetes, high blood pressure, fatigue, and high cholesterol levels. Corn silk contains proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and fiber. It also contains chemicals that might work like water pills (diuretics), and it might alter blood sugar levels, and help reduce inflammation.

Wormwood: Wormwood is a shrub that grows in Europe, North Africa, western Asia, and North America. Its leaves, flowers, and essential oil have all been used medicinally by herbalists. Wormwood is traditionally classified as a bitter to stimulate digestion and relieve intestinal spasms. It has been taken in combination with other herbs to treat the abdominal discomfort and cramping that accompany Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Wormwood is used for various digestion problems such as loss of appetite, upset stomach, gall bladder disease, and intestinal spasms. Wormwood is also used to treat fever, liver disease, depression, muscle pain, memory loss, and worm infections; to increase sexual desire; as a tonic; and to stimulate sweating. Wormwood is used for Crohn’s disease and a kidney disorder called IgA nephropathy. Wormwood oil is also used for digestive disorders, to increase sexual desire, and to stimulate the imagination.

Bitter Orange Peel Extract:
Also called Citrus X Aurantium, is often included in bitters formulas. Bitter orange has been approved by the German Commission E for loss of appetite and other dyspeptic ailments. In modern European herbal medicine, this extract is helpful for stomach complaints related to insufficient gastric juices.
